The Art Of Being Alone Without Feeling Lonely

Somebody just asked me as to what the essentials are to keep one’s woman happy.

I said being an unmarried man, I am probably the wrong guy for the answer. But he still insisted on my answer.

All I could say was there are two things needed to keep one’s woman happy.

Firstly, let her think that she is having her own way.

Second, let her have her own way.

Aloneness and loneliness though in the dictionary may sound identical but are two completely different terms altogether.

Loneliness is a state where you need somebody for your company. It might be your friend, your beloved, a loved one, a cell phone, a television, or any other gadget. You somehow don’t enjoy your own company. You try to extract your sense of joy from the other. Possessiveness is a by-product of your loneliness. A state where you possess the other, making the other just a mere thing to extract your sense of happiness. It’s a termite that gives rise to dependence, slavery, and jealousy.

The question here is that if you don’t enjoy your own company, then how do you expect the other to enjoy your company. On a lighter note, if you don’t enjoy your own company, you are seriously in some bad company.

Aloneness is a state where you start enjoying your own company. It’s a state where you are not dependent on anybody or any outside source for your happiness. If the other is available then you would celebrate with him and when the other has departed, you still are in a joyous state as you are not dependent on the other or any circumstances to make you happy. This stage holds the key to all relationships. All your relationships will blossom once you stop making the other just a mere thing. When you stop extracting the other for your happiness. It’s only now that you set yourself and the others free. Freedom is the fragrance that flows and spreads around you.

We as humans just love the cushion of a security blanket. We love to be around our loved ones or things. The fear of being alone sounds scary for most of us. We unconsciously surround ourselves with people and things and make it almost impossible to explore what a tremendous possibility aloneness can bring on the plate. It’s only if we could gather some courage to come out of the security blanket and dig in deep, would we realize that we are sitting on a possible goldmine without even realizing it.

Aloneness would give you the “ME” time to understand how your piece of life works. How your body, mind, emotions, and your energies work and the tremendous potential it has if allowed to work properly.

Meditation or any other energy practice which keeps you aligned in the present moment is the key to empowering this state. The transformation will kickstart the very moment and would help in bringing some amount of stillness in you.

We as humans are always conditioned with a phrase since our childhood days — “An Idle Mind Is A Devil's Workshop”.

So all our effort has been to run away from it rather than understanding its functioning. It’s like an ostrich who feels the enemy won’t be able to see him if he bends his long neck down. Any form of the possibility of mastering our mind would only start with understanding its ways of functioning as the first step.

We as humans have a tremendous possibility to evolve unlike other species if we could attain mastery over the piece of life that we are. Which simply involves mastery over our body, mastery over our mind, mastery over our emotions, and mastery over our energies. Until then we are just surviving and procreating like other species.

The first step in attaining any form of mastery over your mind is to understand its patterns. Start by giving yourself a few minutes in the day when you are completely disconnected from the outside world and of course all your gadgets included. Just close your eyes and watch the voice in your head. Just try to observe the commentaries of your mind without being judgmental. Every thought which arises would be demanding and pleading for your attention. The survival of your thoughts just exists on your attention. Every thought will poke you or trick you to absorb your attention. There would surely be times when you completely get immersed in thought and realize it much later. The realization of gaps between two consecutive thoughts are signs that you as consciousness have arrived. You would progress with longer gaps between thoughts and experience moments of stillness within you. It’s like the blue sky becoming visible now which was hidden beneath the overcast clouds earlier.

This would be your first realization that the voice in your head is not you and it’s only now that you might have the power to ignore it. There is absolutely no need to take it seriously. It slowly and gradually loses its grip on you. It can no longer poke or trick you and finally, you may come to a moment where you may just laugh over it. There will be a distance created between you and your mind where you remain unaffected by the noise it makes. It’s only now that you have taken some steps towards breaking free from the cobweb of habitual thinking.

This will kick-start your journey towards self-realization and attaining mastery over your mind.

I hope the above post would help initiate the process and ignite the light in you. Once your light of consciousness is ignited, it will take care of itself and empower you with tremendous possibilities.
